A fresh and new approach to helping young and old have a better understanding of music and the guitar. Well done Kirk.
Ron Adams from Toronto, Canada
As I look over my modest, but growing repertoire, I can see that every one of my arrangements includes either tweaks to the original, or simplifications to bring out some aspect more clearly, or additions to add depth and complexity to the original, and sometimes re-voicing (if that’s the word) of whole passages to reflect the way I want to play it. These changes all emerge naturally during the time that I spend learning and practicing a new piece. I say “naturally” because they are all based on the PlaneTalker knowledge and mindset and it is a process that makes learning the guitar so much more pleasurable and rewarding than learning a series of pieces by rote. Thank you Kirk!

PlaneTalk arrived last week. It's a fantastic work, and I'm so excited by its contents. I've been suspecting, by a series of accidents, that this was a viable way to access guitar theory and I am relieved beyond belief to see confirmation and instruction for this approach. I can't thank you enough.

Thank you for Plane Talk and all the fingerstyle stuff on your website, how I wish I had found this about 20 years ago. Apart from a few lessons many many years ago I'm self taught and after years of hopeless online lessons had given away the idea of ever being able to improvise. You have changed my thinking completely.

Hi Kirk. Wish I found you years ago. Would have saved me a lot of needless fretting. Excellent work. Kudos!

Beautifully done Kirk. Got your instructional package last week and it has changed my life. In fact, it will probably add another ten years to it, as I am so excited to be finally doing the one thing I was meant to do with it.

Just got this and worked on it over the weekend. I would say this is better than any lessons I have taken in the past, and has moved me to a new level.

Received the package about a week ago and it's brilliant!!! It sort of "crystallises" all of the theories that have been thrown around over the years into one simple and totally flexible structure ? wish I'd seen it years ago! Many thanks, and kind regards, Pete.

I love your course. As an ear-trained, self-taught guitarist with a classical piano background, I have always looked at the fretboard the same way you do in PlaneTalk, except I'd never managed to integrate my bits & pieces of discovery into the whole picture that you've provided. Funny how the picture keeps getting *simpler* as your perspective gets more *advanced*. I always wished I could see the fretboard with the same clarity that I see the keyboard (That darn 2nd dimension! That darn 2nd string!). Thanks for your help! Bernie

I've already read your book and watched the video. I've spent $100s if not a few $1000 over the years and never finished one and being more confused afterwards. I love the simplicity of your method. Now to try to put it to the fretboard think lm going to have fun with this. Thank you Kirk

My biggest fear when I was thinking about buying was that it would be just something else that I couldn't really do - I don't think that I am naturally vary talented - but I am analytical, and I have gained far more from your course than I ever expected. It has opened up possibilities to me that I never dreamed of, I couldn't understand how other really good players ever managed to learned all the notes on the fretboard. I tried and tried but it never stuck in my head - and then all the scales (I never got as far as modes). When you explained that there is only really one scale and that all the others are variations, I was amazed - it's so much easier to remember a few variations than to try to start to remember all the scales that other teachers lay out in their methods. Your Slide Rule has everything that you NEED, it's not the only guitar slide rule there is but it just covers the essentials which means it is actually very useful. My fears of not being good enough to learn your method were unfounded, but not only that, the "trick" that you teach has made me think in a different way and has started lines of thought which you never mention, although I'm sure that you know them. Your teaching method is very sound, none of the videos of "second finger, third fret" - you are teaching us how to THINK, not just follow tablature. Sure, you teach tunes on your free GuitarforBeginnersandBeyond web site and that's great but that's not what PlaneTalk is about. It's an honour to learn from you and all your years as a professional working musician.

I bought Kirk's sliderule and lessons several years ago. I got distracted by other activities and tried to adopt some of the strategies of other guitar teachers and instructions - the modes and scales, etc. Modes especially baffled me - it seemed like hitting a moving target and endless monotonous boring practice. And that is the key word - target. Kirk's method is focused and targeted to the shapes up and down the fret board. Something that is understandable and doable and useful almost right away and not some holy grail that will appear after months of what feels like aimless exercises and practicing. I have had Kirk's page "PlaneTalker Lessons Old and New" open for several days now and have been having some fun going through a lot of his lessons. I suggest you get on board with the shapes and try them too.

Well, it has been about 10 days since I received the course. What an amazingly approachable learning tool Planetalk is. I have made sure to make time to play everyday ( not quite true, I WANT to play all the time now ) . I had been in a massive rut guitar wise. Page 33.... awesome. I caught myself studying a chord sheet from a guitar magazine and seeing the shapes. I can't unsee them now.

Plane Talk...sheer genius my friend. It has already helped me expand my knowledge of the fret board by maybe 10 light years.

It should be mandatory that all guitars come with Plane Talk.

Some 45 years after learning to play guitar, I found Plane Talk and it changed everything. Kirk's simple, entertaining book and instructive DVD opened up a whole new way for me to think about and play the guitar that I wouldn't have found on my own.

Haha this is so awesome! I'm having so much fun playing guitar now! Using these diagrams is helping to allow my creativity to flow. Honestly, I just got on the site today and started looking around. I currently reside with my parents (there's worse things for a 20 something millennial living situation wise) but they keep asking how I'm getting so much better so quickly at guitar. I keep saying "It's the book from Australia". Thanks Kirk! This is so much fun! And your book is right, the sounds in my head are actually starting to form through my hands. It's really a giant relief. (Can't help but throw on the praise, this has been a struggle for me for most of my life).

Plane Talk is a cleverly illustrated and clearly written book that leap frogs over much of the tedium involved in guitar study. The concept is simple to the point of obvious, once you get it. But it took a professional musician's combined genius for melody, words, and pictures to condense the intricacies of guitar playing down to this simple concept, and into a form we amateurs can quickly understand and utilize. A lifetime's worth of accumulated knowledge has been concisely communicated in this package of book, dvd, and slide rule. In addition, you get access to the forum, where Kirk Lorange creates a friendly space and proves to be open to and patient with beginners' questions. For more advanced players, he's articulate in explaining how the mindset supports theory and an exhaustive study of music. What was especially thrilling to me was I found myself playing melodic riffs and solos in very short order. The melodies literally make themselves, and suddenly you're improvising. However, don't assume you'll be a guitar god in a week because of Plane Talk. Plane Talk does shave considerable time off of learning to play, but practice is still an integral part. If you're starting as a beginner who knows basic chords, as I did, and you devote some time to practice, you will likely be astounded by your progress.

Hi, Being a 'Canny Scot' I dithered over which tuition scheme to subscribe to. I'm certain now that I chose well with you Kirk. PlaneTalk is excellent. I'm just not suited to learning by rote, I need to know why, Plane Talk explains.

Hi Kirk, I just received your package yesterday, thank you! I started reading PlaneTalk today.......I am really impressed, I have played guitar for a number of years and am fairly accomplished but improv has always been my weakness. Even though I have only read up to page 35 what you've said is so obvious (of course you had to work out the obvious) and makes complete sense. I am so glad I bought your book. Many thanks! Yours, Michael

I just wanted to say that, at first sight, I was not too much impressed. But I read on..., just like the intro suggests. Well, all I did was read it through once, like I read a book, and my playing improved by leaps and bounds. I have a Hal Leonard book called "Incredible Chord Finder", claiming to have over 1100 guitar chords. Well, I've stared at 21 chords at a time (there are 21 chords on two facing pages at a time) until my eyes went buggy, and it didn't help me very much at all. But reading through of your book just once has opened up the fretboard for me. .... Now I'm impressed: I mean really impressed. I also have a copy of Guitar Afficionado's "The Collection"; a volume showing famous guitars and guitar collections. Planetalk has replaced that as my favorite guitar book. Of course, once I get good maybe I'll dream about these famous guitars again, but for now my own is full of wonderful possibilities, thanks to PlaneTalk. with appreciation, JohnV

Hi there Well like most people I'm a bit blow away. You'll be my teacher from here on in. So many thanks it's brilliant to say the least. Not enough superlatives to describe it. Cheers, (VB)

After reading your book and watching the DVD, a thought struck me. I felt like Robert Johnson must have felt after returning from the Crossroads. At least metaphorically. So many dots have been connected and so many lightbulbs have been blinking like crazy, it is truly mind-boggling. I'll be forever in debt to you,,,,,, A heartfelt THANK YOU for doing all this incredible work!

Hello Kirk, I have just received Planetalk and have given the video a run through whilst scanning the book and I will now spend the rest of the evening going through them in depth. It punches a straightforward approach right out of the page and screen. Excellent work, I can't wait to get going. Please enrol me on the Planetalk Forum so I can scoop up more lessons and meet the rest of the crew. Thanks for sending me this.I feel I have given not a lot of money for such a priceless gift. Vic

Hi Kirk, I'm (HT) from Singapore. I purchased your Plane Talk package a few months ago and I have to say I'm very happy with it. The way you make playing the guitar so easy to understand is really great. While it may not suit beginners, I know it suits those who are like what I used to be before I got your package. Playing for years but going nowhere in terms of organising all they know about playing guitar. The issue these days is the problem of information overload. Because information is so readily available on the internet and everyone knows everything about everything but it doesn't result in effective playing because they have no 'framework' to put them all together. I feel your system is a good 'framework' for such people. Your method has really developed me to use all areas of the neck and I play with greater fluency and ease. Thanks for putting up this package!
